2009 ILLINOIS THEATRE ASSOCIATION EXCELLENCE IN COMMUNITY THEATRE AWARD 2007

GENERAL INFORMATION: Both men and women are needed, age 16 and over (18 and over is preferred.) For specific character information, click here. You must sing okay to well, and act. Everyone must be able to move well, and some of the women roles must be able to dance well. A Unique need for this show, if possible: A Female set of TWINS, attractive, preferably can sing and dance. Although comparable to a PG-13 rating, some of the suggestive content of FORUM is adult in nature. Those being cast in some of the female roles must be comfortable and not inhibited with wearing possibly suggestive costumes (the Courtesans.) PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE SETTING UP YOUR AUDITION TIME, TO ENSURE YOU HAVE THE AVAILABILITY NEEDED TO AUDITION AND PARTICIPATE IN THE PRODUCTION, SHOULD YOU BE CAST. THANK YOU. Upon arrival, you should proceed to the registration table and sign in with the proctor. Please arrive ten minutes before your assigned slot to fill out paperwork, get settled, etc. You will be called into the theatre individually for the monologue and song portion of the audition at your assigned time, or as close to it as possible. Movement and/or dance auditions will take place at the callbacks for those individuals called back. WHAT TO PREPARE: Please prepare a one or two minute, comedic monologue appropriate to your age range. Although FORUM is set in classical times, the language is basically contemporary in style and not heightened language, so it is not necessary to do a classical monologue. This show is very wacky, vaudevillian, and unrestrained, so if you can incorporate that into your monologue choice, it would be great. It is by no means a requirement, though. Please prepare 16 to 32 bars of a contemporary show tune. Songs from FORUM are okay, but by no means required. Bring sheet music in your key—an accompanist will be provided. NO a capella singing. NO CDs. IF YOU HAVE ANY TALENTS THAT COULD BE CONSTRUED AS BEING APPROPRIATE FOR A VAUDEVILLE SHOW, PLEASE BE PREPARED TO LIST THEM ON YOUR AUDITION SHEET AND BRING WHATEVER YOU NEED TO SHOW US AN EXAMPLE DURING YOUR AUDITION. These could be things such as juggling, spinning plates, ventriloquism, tap dance numbers, etc. Part of our vision for this production is that of a band of players traveling around to various vaudeville houses and presenting this show, which while based on the classic roman plays of Plautus, is very much in vaudevillian style. We may have members of our band of players presenting vaudeville acts before the show, during an Olio Act at intermission, and out in the lobby, before the show begins. Please bring your headshot and resume to the audition, and be prepared to list your conflicts for the rehearsal and production period. Callbacks are by invitation only. If we need to see more from you, we will contact you and have you attend the callbacks. If you are not called back, it does not necessarily mean that you will not be cast. We have cast many people without them being called back, because we saw enough initially to know we wanted to cast them. Based on what we need to see from those called back, your individual callback time may vary, but will fall between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. We may need most of you to stay the whole time, while we may release others early, or have others start later (such as, if the roles we are considering you for don't need to do a dance audition.) At callbacks we will be reading scenes from the play, teaching you songs and singing them, perhaps individually and with groups, Everyone will participate in a fun movement audition, and some of those called back will participate in a dance audition as well. For both of these we will teach you the short piece, and then view you in small groups. Therefore, be prepared to dance/do movement, and as such, wear or bring appropriate clothing. There will be time to change prior to your dance audition in the dressing rooms outside the dance audition room. We will try to put sides of the scenes we will use at callbacks on this website for you to download prior to the callback audition. PERFORMANCE & REHEARSAL DATES AND INFORMATION: There will be
nine performances. Performance
dates are
April 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, and 25, 2010
at the historic Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood Street in Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, February 1, 2010. Typically, rehearsals will be scheduled Monday through Thursday evenings, until right before and during tech week. However, other days may be scheduled depending on the availability of those cast. Depending on your role, you may not have to be at all rehearsals. We will honor listed conflicts, and as such, an actual rehearsal schedule cannot be constructed, until all cast members are selected. We always try to schedule around your listed conflicts and will try to schedule around any new arising conflicts, as long as they do not impede us from maintaining significant progress.
